The Resilient Solar Initiative, powered by Solar One and funded by National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA), is a high school internship program in partnership with the City of Newark’s
Office of Sustainability. Its mission is to develop eight mobile solar chargers deployed to city-wide
community hubs for emergency preparedness. These chargers provide supplemental electricity during
emergencies, aiding Newark residents with medical devices and electronics.
To raise awareness of solar power’s importance, the initiative hosts eight Community Engagement
Showcase “pop-up” events. These free events educate Newark students, families, and businesses on
solar power’s role in emergency services. Events feature:
