SOLAR ONE GALA 2025 at the new S1 Environmental Education Center.

Thanks to Everyone Who Came Out to Celebrate Solar One’s First Ever Gala at our new Environmental Education Center!

This year, we celebrated a new era for Solar One with the unveiling of our new waterfront, solar-powered with battery storage, and flood-resilient building in September. The center now stands as a physical representation of the steps our organization and our city have been taking to prepare for the future of STEM education, climate resiliency, and community building, in service of all New Yorkers, and there couldn’t have been a more perfect venue for our 2025 Gala: Learning and Growing Together.

After reaching our 20-year anniversary in 2024, Solar One is now focused on our upcoming goals as we keep growing and bolstering our education offerings programmatically and geographically in order to reach communities who need it most.

We could not have achieved any of these major objectives without the support of our donors and the hard work of our Solar One teams and Board. We’d also like to extend a very special congratulations to our honorees (New York City Economic Development Corporation, Bjarke Ingels Group, and Accord Power), whose genuine and powerful speeches brought to life just how powerful collaboration with a purposeful mission can be.

We look forward to continuing our journey with you all as we build a greener, more sustainable New York City.

Partners, Funders, and Supporters Came Out to Celebrate Solar One’s 20th Anniversary!

It was a beautiful evening as Solar One celebrated 20 years of award-winning environmental programs at Tribeca Rooftop. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the work of our Board and staff, we reached our fundraising goals and set the stage for the next 20 years.

We’re grateful to all the honorees (Founding ED Chris Collins, Gilbane Building Company, Inclusive Prosperity Capital and Solar One’s inaugural Youth Advisory Council), sponsors, partners and donors who attended and made it such a memorable evening. Special thanks to Melissa Best and Daybreak Management Group for their work in making our party so special.

Energized 2023

October 10th, 2023

An incredible evening, buzzing with positive energy, engaging discussions, and a diverse group of individuals passionate about sustainability: that was ENERGIZED, Solar One’s public policy talk and awards gala held October 10 at the Scandanavia House in Manhattan.

ENERGIZED: “The Future of Sustainability & Resiliency in NYC: Policy & Development,” was the policy discussion led by Solar One Board Member and sustainability advocate Majora Carter as the moderator. The panel featured  Elijah Hutchinson, director of the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice; Solar One’s policy analyst Kate Selden; Daniel Sundlin, partner at architecture firm BIG; and Jared Della Valle, CEO from Alloy Development.

Their shared expertise and vision aimed to help the audience learn more about how sustainable policies and development are shaping NYC’s future.

The discussion didn’t end on the stage.  Afterwards members of the panel and more than 150 guests transitioned to a networking event complete with Swedish wines and petits apéritifs, bringing together a mix of new connections and familiar faces, marking a first return for many to in-person gatherings post-pandemic.

U.S. Rep. Hakim Jeffries,  the House Minority Leader and Leader of the House Democratic Caucus, delivered welcome remarks at the gala dinner via video message. WATCH IT HERE.

At the dinner, hosted by entertainer Pratima Mani, Solar One presented its 2023 ENERGIZED Awards to Carl Heastie, speaker of the New York State Assembly – Renewable Leadership Award; Keith Powers, New York City Council Member – Environmental Stewardship Award; and Alloy Development – Sustainable Achievement Award; and Kirkland & Ellis – Solar Champion Award.
