AUGUST 2011
Friday August 5- Nothing As It Seems: Rooftop Films Presents Short Films from the Darker Side of Life
These films run along a spectrum but most hover in the realm of the dark. We are at times lost, broken down. The characters recount traumas, or create them. A pulse beats throughout the films, pulling us between calm and storm. Though the program varies widely, a thread connects the films, as if the characters are cut from the same cloth, a band of outsiders plotting to take over our world. Tickets available through Rooftop Films only or at the door. Doors open at 8pm.

About Events at Solar One
Solar One utilizes its solar panel array to host the first and only Green Energy Arts Festival in New York City. Solar One has spent several years developing a unique Green Energy Arts program as a way to boost the visibility of Solar One and bring more people to the site. This program has reached thousands of New Yorkers including many who might not normally attend an “environmental” event. Backed by the idea that a person watching a performance or listening to a concert is more receptive to new or unique ideas, the Green Energy Arts Festival makes environmental conservation an experience rather than just an abstract concept.
The Green Energy Arts Festival was held for the first time in 2005, and has continued every year since. In 2011, the Green Energy Arts Festival will include Dance Siteworks in the Park, choreographed by Solar-Powered Dance Series alumni Gabriel Forestieri and Julie Troost; workshop performances of WATER: the secret life of objects, a play about the human relationship to water before, during and after a global flood of catastrophic proportions; the Sun To Stars South Asian Music and Dance Festival, a day-long celebration of South Asian dance, music and culture, now in its 6th season; and the Solar-Powered Film Series- 3 nights of themed environmental documentaries, shorts, speakers and activities. Plus music and dance events presented by the Stuyvesant Cove Park Association in June, July and August- summer is the best time to visit Solar One!
Solar One is available to rent for your event! Please contact Events and Marketing Coordinator Dina Elkan at dina[at]solar1[dot]org for more information.
