COURSE OFFERING: BPI Building Analyst (7 days)

COURSE SUMMARY
Training Overview: This comprehensive course will prepare the student for the Building Analyst on-line and field tests necessary to acquire certification awarded by the BPI (Building Performance Institute). The student will be able to offer homeowners the latest building integrated systems which provide comfort, safety and energy. The course will introduce the concept and practice of energy efficiency, including methods for assessing the energy use of new and existing buildings and techniques for retrofitting buildings to increase efficiency, to include: building science technology and the house as a “whole system” approach to assessing energy usage in small homes and multifamily buildings. Detailed knowledge of residential heating, cooling, and base load air leakage problems are studied and best practices solutions are presented. Intensive class based instruction will be followed by field site experience at our facility.
Topics Covered by Training: This course covers insulation, advanced electrical, weatherization and retrofitting, setting up and using the “blower door” technology to gauge heat loss in small homes, experience with cellulose wall-insulation and fiberglass pipe insulation, weather-stripping, caulking, insulation, pre-audit data collection, building calculations, and two days of field work with a weatherization crew to gain practical experience.
Course Length: This is an 7-day course. Course dates are not consecutive.

BPI Building Analyst Written & Field Exam Information: At the end of the training, registrants have the option to take the BPI Building Analyst written exam and/or the BPI Building Analyst field exam. Please note that exams are an additional cost. See below for more information.
Meals: Meals are NOT provided.

Training and Optional Exam Costs
- OPTIONAL BPI Written Test: $200
- OPTIONAL BPI Field Test: $350
- ** Closed-Enrollment: Training costs are waived for students completing work readiness training and enrolled through eligible workforce training partners including Vocational Foundation Institute (VFI); STRIVE, East Harlem; Building Works; Green City Force, ICD – International Center for the Disabled; Phoenix House; Covenant House New York; Common Ground; Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW); and Osborne Association.
