TruLight Program Manager
Solar One, New York City’s Green Energy, Arts & Education Center is seeking a project manager for the expansion and development of its TruLight program.TruLight seeks to empower high school students to become agents of social change at the grassroots level in underserved communities around the issues of energy use and pollution. The program centers on lighting technology, specifically through the use of compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs in an effort to bring the message of pollution prevention to communities that bear the largest burden from pollution in the city. After running a successful pilot program that has garnered significant acclaim, Solar One is growing the project to broaden its reach and increase it effectiveness.
Qualified applicants will have experience with similar organizing and education projects (teaching experience preferred) and will be familiar with project management tools and producing project deliverables. They will know how to run teams, track risks and issues and meet deadlines.
Tasks will include conducting outreach to schools to secure new commitments and recruit students. Interested students will participate in an orientation to learn about energy and the environment, basic conservation practices, and the positive potential of compact fluorescent technology. The educational component will include public speaking and entrepreneurial seminars to assist students in creating a model business that will market CFLs directly to their respective communities. The manager will also create partnerships with community groups and other organizations to identify venues where groups can demonstrate and sell bulbs, looking especially for regularly scheduled or ongoing opportunities. When necessary, the TruLight manager will also be expected to assist with other educational and outreach activities of the organization.
