Check out this cool video from New Tang Dynasty Television! They covered our Revelry By the River fundraising gala a few weeks ago:

You can also check out an article in the NY Observer about Solar One, Solar 2 and the Platt sisters HERE. It’s official: Chris Collins is dapper!

TOMORROW! Sweet Mud Screening at Solar One

Saturday, June 19th, 2010
June 20, 2010
8:00 pmto11:00 pm

Yet another event collaboration with our good friends at Rooftop Films, we’ll be screening the Sundance award-winning satirical drama Sweet Mud, a story about a young man and his mentally-troubled mother set on an Israeli kibbutz in 1974. While the kibbutz movement is often depicted in a sentimental, idealized way, this film has earned kudos for showing a different side. Co-presented with IFC and the Consulate General of Israel, this event celebrates the 100th anniversary of the kibbutz movement in Israel.

For more information and to RSVP, please visit http://www.rooftopfilms.com/2010/schedule/17-sweet-mud. Solar One will not be able to accept RSVPs for this event.

Solar One Family Day: Pollinators & Food

Saturday, June 19th, 2010
June 26, 2010
10:00 amto2:00 pm

Where does our food come from? How do flowers turn into fruits? Which tiny creatures are responsible for the existence of some of our tastiest treats, like almonds, strawberries and oranges? In fact most nuts, fruits and vegetables require animal pollination, or they wouldn’t exist at all!

On Saturday June 26 from 10am-2pm, we’ll be exploring the pollinators in our environment: honeybees, bumble bees, moths and even flies. Come make handmade ice cream using fruits and plants that grow in Stuyvesant Cove Park, sprout a native plant salad to take home, make a watercolor painting or pollinator costume and learn all about the fascinating, tiny helpers that make our food taste so good!

In Stuyvesant Cove Park, 20th Street Entrance
20th Street & the East River

Help make New York a leading solar state – send the NYS legislature a message!

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Solar One has spent the better part of the last 4 months working with partners to promote the New York Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act (S7093a / A11004), a bill that would increase our state’s local photovoltaic capacity by 140-fold through targeted financial incentives for investors. We’ve traveled the state organizing educational events in key districts to drum up support among constituents, and have met with legislators to discuss the bill at multiple points since January.

With the state legislative session wrapping up in Albany next week our opportunity to pass the bill this year is quickly narrowing. We need your help. Here’s what you can do.

  • CALL YOU STATE LEGISLATORS in the state senate and assembly and urge them to support the New York Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act (S.7093a / A.11004) If you don’t know who your legislators are you can quickly look them up here. The video below provides a brief description of the type of policy that the bill would establish, and you can view this short 1-page synopsis provided by Vote Solar.

  • Our friends at Vote Solar have cooked up a new way to draw attention to our bill – a giant digital billboard located right on Interstate 787 on route to Albany. Thousands of cars zoom by it every hour. Our billboard will flash messages of support for the bill. The sign will be active tomorrow, June 16th, but right now we need a little extra support to help cover our costs. Please consider contributing a minimum of 39 cents – the average monthly cost to ratepayers that the bill will result in over the course of its implementation – to support this strategy. Just VISIT THIS SECURE PAGE on the Vote Solar site to conveniently and quickly make your donation.

Thank you for your support!!!
