Come to the Staten Island Mall Greenmarket on Saturday, November 14 2009 for Clothing and Textile Recycling Day!

In celebration of the opening of CENYC’s 50th Greenmarket farmers market at the Staten Island Mall, come down and drop your unwanted clothing and textiles while you check out the Greenmarket.
Unwanted textiles represent almost 6% of the city’s residential waste stream. You can do your part to help prevent textiles from winding up in the landfill by dropping them off for reuse or recycling. Once collected, the textiles are transported to a sorting facility where everything gets categorized based on reusability and type of fabric, then sent to different markets where there is a demand for that type of material. CENYC will partner with Wearable Collections, a NYC-based textile recycling company for this event. More than 450,000 pounds of used clothing, shoes, linens, towels, and accessories have been dropped off by over 11,000 New Yorkers since the summer of 2007 at eight textile recycling collection sites at Greenmarkets in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens thanks to CENYC’s efforts.
And learn how to save energy and money with NYSERDA Energy $mart Communities. We’ll have tips on how to keep energy bills down this winter, and information about programs that can help fund energy upgrades in your home or business!
