Labor Secretary Smith holds press conference at Solar One to announce June job stats.
On Thursday morning, July 16th, Solar One hosted a press conference convened by New York State Commissioner of Labor, M. Patricia Smith. The commissioner announced that the state experienced significant additional job losses in the month of June, an indication that New York’s economic health has now declined to levels on par with the national average. In contrast to these gloomy numbers, Commissioner Smith took time to acknowledge the success and future potential of Solar One and partner STRIVE‘s growing green collar job training programs, and the organizations’ new partnership, that will expand training in multiple tracks to thousands of New Yorkers living in chronically under-employed communities beginning this fall. Solar One Executive Director Chris Collins also addressed the conference to discuss the importance of the green collar economy for New York’s future prosperity.
