Demand for motor fuel is expected to swell dramatically in the coming decades. Oil prices are on the rise and dependence on unstable foreign sources is increasingly problematic. Concerns are mounting over global warming and the immediate need to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

In recent years, ethanol - an energy source derived from fermented plant material, most commonly corn - has been proposed as a potential home-grown solution for our multiple growing energy challenges. Based on the level of subsidies that have been lavished on this fuel source, it is clear that the federal government is supportive of this idea. However, there is a strong challenge being mounted by a growing chorus of experts that ethanol is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Join policy analyst Dulce Fernandes of the Network for New Energy Choices for a balanced, data-driven discussion of the many challenges associated with our sudden rush to ethanol.
